Everything That Should Die In 2015

As we exit 2014, let's talk about what we hope stays there. Here's Deadspin's list of things that should die in the year to come. College GameDay
It wasn't that long ago that I referred to College GameDay as my "favorite television show." For sure, we've collected more than 500 GameDay sign screencaps over the years, but our enthusiasm for ESPN's Saturday morning fanfest is waning, both for reasons inherent to the program itself and due to an emerging competitor on one of the Worldwide Leader's own networks. This past season of College GameDay took a huge step backward in quality after years of the program's subtle slipping; it hasn't been fun to laugh at Lee Corso's schtick for several seasons, but other factors really made…

ESPN Doesn't Appear To Know What Happened During The Civil War

In the latest example of why things from the internet should stay on the internet, the Monday Night Football crew decided to talk about their latest online discovery: the Capt. Andrew Luck twitter account. For those unfamiliar, the parody account features an avatar of Luck’s face over a Civil War general and tweets things relevant to the quarterback’s season in the form of an old-timey letter. As Joe Tessitore, Jason Witten and Booger McFarland laugh about the account, ESPN’s production team decided to use this topic to segue into a Civil War-themed graphic about how the quarterback’s protection has improved over his career with the Colts. For some reason, the designers really wanted to emphasize the time period and had two linemen protecting Luck dressed in grey Confederate Arm…

Warrant: Aaron Hernandez Circled Victims Before 2012 Drive-By Murders

Surveillance footage shows an SUV driven by Aaron Hernandez circling the block near a Boston nightclub, waiting for a group of men to get in their own vehicle, before pulling up alongside it and spraying it with gunfire, according to a search warrant released yesterday. It's the most solid evidence yet connecting Hernandez to the 2012 double-murder, for which no one has yet been charged. The warrant, relayed in today's , provides more information on the the drive-by killings of Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado on July 16, 2012. Hernandez has emerged as the focus of the investigation. Security cameras at Cure nightclub show Hernandez and associate Alexander Bradley, who is currently suing Hernandez for allegedly shooting him, entering the club immediately after Abreu and Furta…

Pol's son says Trump hinted at 'a lot of money' in 2008 for Spygate probe to go away

The New England Patriots have as much of a scandalous underbelly as any NFL organization, in no small part due to the example that is set from the top down. Prostitution, spying, cheating, altering games from the stadium to the ball itself — you name it, they’ve done it, or have at least been accused of it. Odds are, there’s more to their resume than is publicly known. Most infamously in the line of Patriots scandals is “Spygate,” stemming from the Patriots repeated transgressions against league rules. Let’s backtrack to what happened. During the Patriots Week 1 tilt with the New York Jets on Sept. 9, 2007, fresh off acquiring future hall-of-fame wide receiver Randy Moss, NFL officials confiscated a camera from a Patriots video assistant named Matt Estrella on the sideline…

Colin Cowherd: I Would Take Tua Tagovailoa No. 1 Overall

data-mm-id=”_kyon977h7″>Now that the Super Bowl is over, our attention is turned down the road towards the future– specifically, the 2020 NFL Draft. Colin Cowherd chimed in to that particular discussion today on The Herd, when he explained why he'd take Tua Tagovailoa No. 1 overall over any other prospect: "I would take Tua No.1… I've never seen a college QB with numbers like his, ever. And he did it in the SEC." — @ColinCowherd pic.twitter.com/pXxWcJ4xQm— Herd w/Colin Cowherd (@TheHerd) February 11, 2020Cowherd spent the first part of the segment attempting to deconstruct the argument that Tagovailoa is injury-prone after the Alabama product suffered a hip injury that ended his season. His argument essentially boiled down to "Everyone gets hurt and ther…

Cam Newton Got the Short End of the Stick From the Panthers

data-mm-id=”_ngdwogko4″>The 2020 NFL Draft has come and gone. Most of the top free agents are off the board. Most, if not all, teams are moving the final pieces around to assemble their 90-man roster they plan on heading into training camp (or whatever iteration is possible by July). And yet, Cam Newton, former MVP, remains unsigned. He has the Carolina Panthers to blame for that. The Panthers released Newton on March 24, nearly two weeks after the official start of free agency. While it's impossible to be sure about anything in such times, it seems quite likely that releasing Newton closer to the first day of free agency would have significantly increased his chances of finding a place to at least fight for a starting gig. Carolina held on to Newton in hopes someone would trade f…

Trevor Bauer Wanted to Wear 'FREE JOE KELLY' Cleats, MLB is Blocking Him

data-mm-id=”_ym33975tn”>Trevor Bauer has made no secret of his disdain for the Houston Astros, so it's no surprise he is defending Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Joe Kelly. Kelly was suspended by Major League Baseball for throwing at the heads two Astros hitters on July 29. Bauer planned to wear "FREE JOE KELLY" cleats on the mound Wednesday night but MLB has shot that down. Bauer tweeted a video of the cleats he was planning to wear during his start for the Cincinnati Reds:And the moment you've all been waiting for…..here's a look at my cleats for tonight's start. FREE JOE KELLY! If you want to be eligible for a chance to win these, see next tweet for details. pic.twitter.com/WR0LrNpgCC— Trevor Bauer (@BauerOutage) August 19, 2020The league clearly sa…

Lambeau Field in the Snow Without Fans is One Final Depressing Image of Sports in 2020

data-mm-id=”_vkrb9awkw”>The Green Bay Packers will host the Tennessee Titans in the Week 16 Sunday Night Football matchup. It should be a great game with Green Bay trying to clinch the top seed in the NFC and the Titans fighting for a playoff spot in the AFC. On top of pitting two playoff teams in primetime late in the season, the game will have one of the most beautiful and historic backdrops in sports — Lambeau Field in the snow. Player Accused of Cheating at World Series of Poker After Making Ridiculous Call

data-mm-id=”_4hvamragp”>Martin Kabrhel, a professional poker player, has been accused of cheating at the World Series of Poker. Kabrhel finished third in the $250,000 buy-in Super High Roller No-Limit event on Sunday, but has drawn cheating accusations because of a couple incidents at the final table. The WSOP is investigating. Kabrhel, from the Czech Republic, turned heads with a very questionable call that would knock out Dan Smith in sixth place. Kabrhel raised and then Smith re-raised all-in. Kabrhel thought about it briefly and then called with 10-6 suited, whch is a garbage hand, but he flopped a six and Smith and his A-Q never recovered. Dan Smith (@DanSmithHolla) had some choice words for Martin Kabrhel (@martinkabrhell) after his elimination from the $250,000 Super High Roller…
