Mignolet not worried about speculation

Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet will use Belgium international duty to avoid talk of a transfer away from the club.

The 25-year-old has been an ever-present for Paolo Di Canio s side this season and his performances have created speculation that a move to Manchester United or Arsenal could be on the cards.

However, he has two years left on his contract at the Stadium of Light and is no rush to leave the club that he joined in 2010.

Instead, Mignolet will concentrate on the international matches with USA and Serbia before preparing for the new season at Sunderland.

I ll be going away with Belgium first of all and I ll focus on that, he said. Afterwards, I m abroad, so I m not going to really read the English newspapers.

I won t get carried away by the speculation. I ll keep my feet on the ground.

When you re playing well, there will be stories written about you. During the off-season, there s only one thing to write about, that s transfers, not football anymore.

Mignolet was frustrated not to add to his 11 clean sheets this season in their final game against Tottenham, as a last-minute Gareth Bale strike condemned Sunderland to their 17th defeat of the season.

It s always disappointing to concede the goal, it doesn t matter what manner it s been scored, he said. You want to keep a clean sheet.

I think everything went well until the 89th minute, so it s disappointing to concede so late in the game.
