Kenny McLean nets late winner as Scotland edge qualifying comeback in Norway

Kenny McLean scored a dramatic 89th-minute winner for Scotland in Norway as the visitors turned their Euro 2024 qualifier on its head with two goals in as many minutes.

Scotland were trailing to Erling Haaland’s 61st-minute penalty and had barely posed a threat before Lyndon Dykes capitalised on some hesitancy in the Norwegian defence to nudge the ball home after John McGinn’s attempted through ball had been intercepted.

The Group A leaders soon ensured they continued their perfect start to the campaign when Dykes laid McGinn’s pass back to substitute McLean, who curled a low shot just inside the far post.

Lennon ´honoured´ to have managed Celtic

Neil Lennon spoke in glowing terms of former club Celtic, following confirmation he is stepping down after four years in charge.

The Northern Irishman took the reins as caretaker boss in March 2010 and was given the job on a permanent basis ahead of the 2010-11 season.

He oversaw four trophy-laden years at Celtic Park, guiding the team to three league titles and two Scottish cups to further enhance his standing at the club after seven years there as a player between 2000 and 2007.

Lennon has been heavily linked with the vacant position at Norwich City in recent weeks, and it was suggested in some quarters that he held concerns over Celtic s playing budget for next season.

However, following the announcement on Thursday, Lennon had nothing but good things to say a…

Valbuena backs France to surprise at World Cup

Mathieu Valbuena has backed France to cause a shock at the FIFA World Cup and claim the second title in their history.

After finishing second to Spain in the qualifying campaign, Didier Deschamps side had to beat Ukraine in the play-offs to book their place at the finals, but Marseille forward Valbuena is confident they will shine in Brazil.

France were humiliated at the 2010 World Cup as they failed to get out of their group, finishing bottom behind South Africa with just a single point.

Valbuena insists the current squad are determined to do better this time around and give the fans something to cheer about after previous disappointments.

(Winning would be) legendary, he told L Equipe. There are teams better equipped than us, but we believe we can win it.

Guardiola proud of cup form as final Bayern match beckons

Pep Guardiola is proud of Bayern Munich s recent record in the DFB-Pokal as he prepares for Saturday s final, which will be his final game at the helm.

Bayern, who clinched a fourth Bundesliga title in a row this season, will face runners-up Borussia Dortmund as they look to win a second domestic double under the former Barcelona boss.

Guardiola s men beat Dortmund 2-0 in the 2014 final before they suffered a semi-final defeat to Jurgen Klopp s side last season, but the 45-year-old says their consistency in the tournament deserves plenty of praise irrespective of this weekend s result.

We re here to win, he said. The best two teams of the year are here. I m very proud of the consistency we ve shown – we ve been in the semi-finals and twice in the final in t…
