Promising Australia international Nathan Burns has had his contract with Greek giants AEK Athens terminated.
The 23-year-old attacker, who joined AEK from Adelaide United in 2008, still had six months remaining on his contract but was granted an early release due to the Athens club s financial woes.
Burns, who has seven caps for the Socceroos, took to Twitter to reveal he was unsure where his next move would be, although there have been rumours of an A-League return or a move to Korea.
As you may know I have terminated my contract today from AEK Athens, he tweeted.
I thank AEK for the past three years and many great memories.
Not sure what team I m heading to yet. Maybe next week I ll have more news.
Burns only managed seven appearances in all competitions for AEK this term and is now looking to revive his international career with a club where he will see regular action.
A-League pair Newcastle Jets and Sydney FC are understood to both be interested in his services.
