Atletico Madrid v Real Madrid: Joao Felix and Diego Costa yet to fire for Rojiblancos

Atletico Madrid host LaLiga leaders and city rivals Real Madrid this weekend with Joao Felix still feeling his way in to life as their club-record signing.

Brought in as a direct replacement for Antoine Griezmann following the France forward s controversial switch to Barcelona, Joao Felix has shown flashes of the brilliance that persuaded Atleti to pay his €126million release clause to buy him from Benfica.

The teenager exploded onto the scene with 15 Primeira Liga goals last season, while he hit a superb hat-trick against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League quarter-finals.

The expectations on his shoulders at Atletico are a different story, however, with Joao Felix having two goals and an assist to show for his six LaLiga appearances at his new club.

Barcelona, Manchester United, Arsenal and Napoli – The most memorable matches of Terry´s Chelsea car

With Chelsea announcing on Monday that John Terry is set to leave the club at the end of the 2016-17 campaign after 22 years of loyal service, we look back at some of the defender s most memorable games for the Blues.

Chelsea 4-2 Barcelona (5-4 agg) – March 8, 2005

To this day, it remains one of the most treasured European nights at Stamford Bridge. An electrifying start saw Chelsea race into a three-goal lead and take command of the tie within 19 minutes, but the magical Ronaldinho turned it back in Barcelona s favour before the interval – converting a fantastic outside-of-the-boot finish from the edge of the area.

The match remained level until the 76th minute, when Terry rose to steer a corner from Damien Duff across the face of goal and inside the far p…

Pogba explains Man Utd struggles after ´dream return home´ with Juventus

Paul Pogba revealed he had thought a lot about returning to Juventus after sealing his Serie A comeback, as he blamed his Manchester United struggles on multiple factors.

Having left United following the end of his contract in June, Pogba sealed a return to Juventus on Monday, six years after departing the Turin giants to head to Old Trafford in a then-world record £89million (€105m) deal.

The 2018 World Cup winner won four consecutive Serie A titles in his first spell with the Bianconeri, scoring 34 goals in 178 appearances for the club.

Despite lifting the EFL Cup and Europa League trophies in the 2016-17 season, Pogba largely struggled to live up to his lofty price tag with United.

His presence could not prevent the Red Devils from failing to win …

Chelsea to make nice profit off a player that never played for them

Chelsea have already started making big plans for the summer ahead. The Blues are currently fighting for the top four finish in the Premier League and soon they will be back in Champions League action. They have spent 45 million euros for Hakim Ziyech, as they already snapped him up before competition came in. But now it looks like Frank Lampard s side will get a nice profit where they maybe did not expect it.

According to the Guardian, Atalanta have taken up the option to sign Chelsea midfielder Mario Pasalic on a permanent deal. The Serie A side have been impressed with the Croatian s performances these past two seasons and they will pay 15 million euros to get the 25-year-old on permanent deal. Pasalic has been a Chelsea player since 2014 when he arrived from Hajduk Split fo…

Manchester City introduce redress scheme for survivors of child sex abuse

Manchester City have launched a redress scheme for survivors of historic child sex abuse.

The Premier League champions initiated a QC-led review in November 2016 following the allegations made against Barry Bennell.

Bennell, a former Crewe Alexandra youth coach and City scout, was jailed for 31 years in February 2018 having been convicted of 50 offences against 12 boys aged eight to 15 between 1979 and 1991 by a jury at Liverpool Crown Court.

City said that their ongoing review led to the uncovering of serious allegations of child sex abuse in respect of another individual, John Broome and that their redress scheme applies to the victims of Broome – who died in 2010 and Bennell.

A City statement added: The club reiterates its heartfelt sympathy to al…

Pogba injury ´worsened´ by France playmaker´s alternative treatment, says surgeon

Paul Pogba s meniscus injury was worsened by the Juventus midfielder s decision to undergo conservative therapy rather than surgery, says his doctor Roberto Rossi.

The France star initially decided against an operation to solve a lesion to the lateral meniscus in his right knee, and favoured an alternative course of treatment.

Inconsistent results during training last week, however, forced him to undergo surgery on Monday, with a predicted eight-week recovery period casting doubt on his chances of making France s Qatar 2022 World Cup squad.

His decision to initially delay an operation has left Juventus frustrated, and now Rossi has outlined further how Pogba s original choice has waylaid him even more.

The lesion to the lateral meniscus was tricky becaus…

Prediction: Iceland vs England

England and Iceland kick off their second UEFA Nations League campaigns on Saturday as they meet at Laugardalsvöllur.

In what is a revised competition format following the inaugural edition last season, the two teams have been matched together, alongside Belgium and Denmark. Considering the difficulty of the group, both sides will hope to kick off in the best possible way.

Iceland

Despite a horrendous run of form between March 2018 and January 2019, where Iceland went 15 games without a victory, they actually kick off this season s internationals on the back of some excellent results. Erik Hamren s side have won eight out of their last 12 matches, keeping clean sheets in seven of those games. The team also come into their clash with England having notched three consec…

Lille seal Champions League qualification, Brest join Metz in Ligue 1

Lille s place in the Champions League qualifying rounds has been confirmed following Saint-Etienne s defeat to Montpellier, while Brest have joined Metz in being promoted to Ligue 1.

Christophe Galtier s Lille sit second in the top flight on 69 points with three games remaining but, thanks to Montpellier s 1-0 win at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard on Friday, their place in the top three is now secured.

With only Lyon capable of catching them, Lille – Ligue 1 champions in 2010-11 – are guaranteed a spot at least in the Champions League qualifiers, a remarkable turnaround in fortunes following their 17th-place finish in Ligue 1 last term.

Key to Lille s successful season has been the form of Nicolas Pepe, who has scored 20 goals in 35 Ligue 1 appearances.

Joao Felix plays down summer Manchester United links

Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix was strongly linked with a move to Manchester United during the summer transfer window. There were even reports claiming the 20-time English champions submitted a whopping €130 million offer for his services, only see it rejected without a second s thought.

In an exclusive interview with Spanish publication , the 22-year-old was asked whether he had even considered making the switch, but he simply said that no actual offer ever reached him and pointed out that he remains an Atletico Madrid player.

Felix joined the Rojiblancos from Benfica in 2019 for close to what Manchester United are believed to have offered this year. Since then, he s gone on to score 29 goals and produce 18 assists in 116 matches for Diego Simeone s team, helping…

´Weakest attack in the top six´ – Neville not convinced Man Utd are back

Manchester United have the worst attack among the Premier League s big six , according to Gary Neville, who remains unconvinced by the Red Devils form under Erik ten Hag.

United saw their nine-match unbeaten run halted by a 3-1 reverse at Aston Villa on Sunday, as goals from Leon Bailey, Lucas Digne and Jacob Ramsey punished a lethargic display.

The Red Devils went two goals down within 11 minutes at Villa Park – the earliest point of a Premier League game at which they had trailed by two goals since October 2018 (v Newcastle United), and they failed to find a route back into the contest.

Although United are just three points adrift of a top-four spot, they have scored fewer league goals than four of their big six rivals this term (all but Chelsea), leaving Nev…
